Ayudapii: The Primitive (The Evolution of Need, Phase One)
Ayudapii (pronounced uh-YOU-duh-pie) is the invented term for the specific species of movement artist whose expressive language relies on an intimate physical relationship with the space on or just above the floor.
This performance features movement artists Monica Mata Gilliam, Alice Gosti, Allie Hankins and Shannon Kay Stewart and musician Christopher Hydinger.
Of special note in this performance will be the inclusion of an exploded chamber-style seating arrangement, placing each audience member and each performer in potentially highly intimate proximity to one another. And with the individual seats consisting of a firm yet comfortable, tightly rolled, hypoallergenic textile cylinder, all those in attendance will be sitting in a gently supported cross-legged position on the floor and therefore afforded the incredibly rare opportunity to not only be "in" the performance but to experience, digest and even feel the movement in a way not unlike the revolution in 3D feature length films that has recently occurred in movie theaters.
The Evolution of Need explores how all things, including needs, evolve by moving through three distinct phases of existence. Phase One is the Primitive phase and can be summed up as Messy Simplicity, inherently possessing ignorant asymmetry, less ideas/materials/etc. each serving more functions and ignorant non-long term solutions/answers/etc. Phase Two is the Explorative phase and can be summed up as Transitional Experimentation, inherently possessing a no-boundaries ongoing chronological cycle defined by observation, realization, invention and testing. Phase Three is the Consciousness phase and can be summed up as Elegant Complexity, inherently possessing purposeful asymmetry and symmetry, more ideas/materials/etc. each serving less functions and purposeful short and long term solutions/answers/etc.
