Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Fest hosted by CAFF
Join the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) when they host the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival On Tour at the Clif Bar theater on October 28. The event will include a selection of the region's best prepared food vendors, food artisans, and growers, as well as local beverages, prizes, music, and a full program of eye-opening films focusing (mostly) on how people can make environmental change through sustainable food.
ABOUT CAFF & WSEFF:
Founded in 1978, the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) advocates for California family farmers and sustainable agriculture. The Davis-based nonprofit organization has been recognized nationally and internationally for its pioneering biological agriculture, Farm-to-School, local food systems and policy programs. CAFF's Berkeley office focuses on public education and outreach, including California's well-known Buy Fresh Buy Local program.
Wild & Scenic On Tour brings together a selection of films from the annual Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival held each January in Nevada City, CA. The event was originally started by a watershed advocacy group, the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) in 2003. Now North America's largest environmental film festival, Wild & Scenic is building a network of over 90 grassroots organizations connected by a common goal of using film to inspire activism. With the support of their National Partners, Clif Bar, Tom's of Maine, Osprey Packs, Patagonia, and Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., the festival can reach an even larger audience in tour venues coast to coast.
FILMS:
Nourish ~ What we eat, where we eat, and how we eat reveals much about our relationship to food. Today, more than ever, we need to understand where our food comes from and how it reaches us. If you want change, vote three times a day – with your fork!
Brower Youth Awards: Hai Vo ~ Earth Island Institute established the Brower Youth Awards to honor legendary environmental activist, David R. Brower and to call forth a new generation of leaders. Through his work with the Real Food Challenge at UC Irvine, Hai Vo changed the way his fellow students ate and thought about food. Hai is also a 2008-2009 Sustainable Agrifood Systems Fellow with UC Santa Cruz's Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems and now organizes young people around good food with Live Real.
Split Estate ~ Imagine discovering that you dont own the mineral rights under your land, and that an energy company plans to drill for natural gas two hundred feet from your front door.
The Fun Theory: Piano Stairs ~The Fun Theory. We believe that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change peoples behaviour for the better. Can we get more people to take the stairs over the escalator by making it fun to do?
Flathead Wild ~ "Images act as irrefutable evidence of the beauty of our planet and the critical resources we can't afford to lose," says Cristina Mittermeier, President of the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP).
Big River ~ Curt and Ian (of 'King Corn' fame) have returned to Iowa with a new mission: to investigate the environmental impact their acre of corn has had on the people and places downstream.
Greenhorns ~ This spring found young farmers as unlikely poster children of a new zeitgeist.
