Event
Blugrass & Folk music benefit concert.
Joel Mabus, The Rarely Herd, and LeRoy Mack on the same intimate stage for the first time ever! They are three of the finest Bluegrass & Folk acts that could possibly be assembled. Their performances are powerful, personal, greatly entertaining, and transformational. You'll come for their marvelous music, but will leave with new best friends.
Singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Joel Mabus is a maverick in the music world. He defies all attempts to affix a label to him, his music, or his performances. He picks a mountain banjo to accompany an ancient ballad, sings a witty song about modern life, plays a sweet Irish melody on guitar, swings a hot jazz number, and then reaches deep for a soulful expression of values in a troubled world. He tops it all with a fiddle tune or old Carter family song -- all skillfully blended into a seamless flow. One fan says "It is music from the heart that hits you right between the eyes."
An active touring and recording performer for the past 30 years, Joel has 19 albums to his credit; the latest are No Worries Now (2009) âÂ" all new original songs, Retold (2008) - new recordings of his early hits, and The Joel Mabus Omnibus (2008) - a reissue of two early albums. He has performed in concert with a long list of top musical stars such as John Prine, Joan Baez and Tom Paxton to name a few. He has been featured at many top folk clubs and festivals, such as the Philadelphia Folk Festival and the Vancouver Folk Festival.

The Rarely Herd hail from Southeastern Ohio, but are known around the globe as one of the premier Bluegrass groups of the past two decades. They have received over 120 International, National, and Regional awards and nominations. The Herd was named one of Europe's 'Top 3 Best New Bands' and have been featured on CMT, TNN and Japan's network giant NHK-TV. In 2003, The Rarely Herd received the Grand Masters Gold Award at the National Bluegrass Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee in honor of their 10 consecutive wins as "Entertaining Band of the Year". That is a feat unequaled in the history of those awards. Other awards include a Gospel Music Association 'Dove' Award nomination and an IBMA 'Gospel Recording of the Year' nomination.
The Herd's stellar musicianship and vocals are equaled only by their captivating stage performances. Uproarious comedy and top-notch music make a Rarely Herd performance a must-see event for the entire family!
