A Night of Wine, Ukuleles & Blame Sally ~ a benefit for WomenGig!
Start off your evening with a short tour of the DaSilva ukulele workshop while sipping fine wines and nibbling on exquisite hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Learn how Michael DaSilva handcrafts his custom ukes and listen to a demonstration of ukulele technique by Pia de Souza. We'll watch a preview of the award-winning documentary, The Mighty Uke: The Amazing Comeback of a Musical Underdog, which provides a fascinating glimpse into the culture of the humble instrument that is fast gaining popularity in the indie music world. (We may even have a drawing for you to take home your very own ukulele or Mighty Uke DVD!)
Then sit back and enjoy an intimate loft concert with BLAME SALLY! A unique collective of four distinct voices and musical backgrounds, Blame Sally has forged a compelling and original sound that has earned the band the well-deserved reputation as "Bay Area phenomenon". The San Francisco Chronicle raved that Blame Sally's music "…recall(s) the artful romanticism of Jane Siberry, the rich folk harmonies of the Indigo Girls, and the percolating soulfulness of Joy of Cooking…their lush, lovely melodies draw from folk and rock traditions, but they really distinguish themselves through their unusual storytelling."
"One of the finest Americana bands in the country right now, like a folk-based U2."
