1000 Forest Gorillas in Kansas
1000 Forest Gorillas in Kansas is a new performance piece by Natalie George and Heloise Gold and featuring Ellen Bartel, Jason Phelps, and Elaine Dove and an ensemble of local talent.
Using their extensive creative backgrounds (Gold's vast experience as a dancer/choreographer and George's talents as a lighting designer/artist) the two artists explore a shared fascination of movement and light, the evolution of communication, and the curiosity of doing things a 1000 times over. This new ensemble work has been a year in the making and includes everything AND the kitchen sink.
Gold was nominated for 3 Austin Critics Table Awards in 2013-2014 and was awarded "Best Short Dance Work" for 'Resonance'. Her show GoldShow/RoseShow (with Julie Nathanielsz) was honored in the Austin Chronicle's The Top 10 Best Dance works for 2013 and 2014.
George has been honored with awards for best lighting design by the Austin Critics Table and the B. Iden Payne awards. The Austin American-Statesman says, "The play of shadows orchestrated by Natalie George's breathtaking light design is worth the trip in itself."
***Tickets are $18-$50 on a sliding scale. We appreciate all support generated through ticket sales. You make a significant contribution to funding this performance and for our artists at every level.
