Friday, September 24, Many Voices One Song, concert at St. Mark's Cathedral, 7:30 pm
Come join the annual Many Voices One Song Musical Benefit Concert Friday, September 24, 7:30 pm at St. Mark's Cathedral on Seattle's Capital Hill, 1245 20th Avenue East. This musical benefit for Multifaith Works is sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia.
Featured performers:
Seattle Kokon Taiko Drummers: Explosive Japanese Drumming. Taiko is a dynamic synthesis of rhythm, movement and spirit originating in Japan and evolving as a folk art over the last several hundred years. Seattle Kokon Taiko combines the ancient with the modern; their repertoire is a mix of traditional pieces and contemporary compositiions.
Captain Smartypants: A hilarious ensemble of the Seattle Men's Chorus that has performed at every Many Voices concert across the last 15 years. Captain Smartypants has performed with many great artists over the years. The link to their performance of 'Kislev Cowboys' (aka 'Brokeback Dreidel') has received over 500,000 hits on YouTube and was featured on NPR's 'Hearing Voices' in November of 2008. Captain Smartypants all live together in a treehouse in Yelm, where they weave all their own clothing out of wild vines. Their favorite color is 'plaid' and they eat nothing but circus peanuts and fiddlehead ferns. Eric Lane Barnes, Assitant Artistic Director of Seattle Men's Chorus, is their trepid leader.
Sensible Shoes: An ensemble of Seattle Women's Chorus. They are a pop and vocal jazz group in the tradition of Captain Smartypants and Emerald City Volunteers. This group of women balance great vocal delivery with fun, innovative staging.
Rob-A-Live Productions, Northwest-based Community Gospel. An award-winning, dynamic gospel act directed by Robert Anderson.
Organist Alan DePuy on the St. Mark's famous Flentrop Organ: A talented musician from the St. Mark's community, Alan will perform on St. Mark's Flentrop, which is recognized as a landmark organ of international note. It turns the whole cathedral space into an instrument and truly creates a beautiful musical experience.
General Admission: $20 in advance or $25 at the door or day of event. Tickets can be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com/event/122873. For more information, call the Multifaith Works information line: 206-324-1520x333 or www.multifaith.org
