UP (When I Grow) brings professional filmmakers and professional poets together to make something truly unusual, and unusually true.
TumbleMe Productions has teamed with Mae Pictures to present UP (When I Grow), a collaborative, multi-genre show about dreams. Pushing the boundaries between poetry, performance, and film, eight of the Northwest's most talented poets and songwriters have responded to the following questions: What did you want to be when you grew up? Where do you keep those dreams today? A series of short films -- conceptualized by the performers -- will provide a dreamscape to accompany live performances on the theme. Join the ensemble as we climb back into the imagined fire trucks of our childhoods, try on the too-big boots of our current aspirations, and spin pink in the tutus of our secret desires.

THE PRODUCERS
TumbleMe Productions invites audiences, artists, and community members to smash taboos and open windows using new and recycled tools, including: multi-media and participatory performances; issue-based workshops using writing and other fun toys, and community partnerships for creative social change.
TumbleMe founder Elaina M. Ellis presented four sold-out ensemble productions in 2009 and early 2010, including BodyLove; And God Said, Come On Inside; XOXO; and SPRUNG. Her first book, Write About An Empty Birdcage, is forthcoming from Write Bloody Publishing in 2011.
Mae Pictures is interested in telling good stories the best way we know how. As a community based production company we collaborate with local musicians, crews and interns in the name of support and exposure; believing a film can be a means of raising the water so that all the boats rise.
Mae Pictures founder Lane Stroud co directed Dark Material (2009) and I SAW U (2010), winning several jury awards at film festivals internationally. She has worked with Reel Grrls since 2005 and is a proud supporter of youth media.
THE CAUSE
Queer Youth Space is radical and revolutionary in that it is a youth-led, adult supported model. The ideas and values inherent within this structure are at the very core of the philosophy of the collective, chief among them furthering the model of youth leadership in which Queer Youth Space believes should be dominant structure locally as well as nationwide.
Queer Youth Space is a community initiative and coalition in which the overall campaign is to secure space for queer youth in the Seattle area. This space would be led, owned, and organized by the very constituency that the space would serve. We believe true success in eliminating oppression rests in galvanizing those experiencing oppression as the primary actions in challenging and directly confronting systematized oppression. Successful youth development requires that youth operate as the sails of the ship, or as the captain, rather than just acting as the passengers.
