Vinifera Trio
The Vinifera Trio, comprised of three young and talented musicians -- violinist/violist Rachel Patrick, clarinettist Matthew Boyles, and pianist Ian Scarfe -- presents a program of music demonstrating the ways in which Jewish culture influenced classical music. "Old World to Our World" highlights how composers as diverse as Ernest Bloch, Darius Milhaud, Srul Irving Glick, Paul Schoenfield, Sergei Prokofiev, and George Gershwin drew on Jewish and Hebrew cultural themes in creating some of the most beautiful classical music of the last century. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Vinifera Trio performs a range of music from classical to contemporary, jazzy big band to klezmer. Recent programming includes 20th century classics by Bela Bartok and Igor Stravinsky, jazz compositions by Benny Goodman and Darius Milhaud, and opera works by Gian Carlo Menotti. A benefit for the Jewish Historical Society of Napa Valley, this afternoon concert will offer patrons the White Barn tradition of complimentary wine (courtesy of Judd's Hill) and non-alcoholic beverages at intermission.
