Diwan Saz and Yair Dalal
WEST COAST PREMIERE Direct from Israel, Diwan Saz is a multicultural Jewish-Muslim-Christian group of seven musicians from Israel who perform ancient music from Central Asia, Turkey, Persia, and Israel with a variety of instruments, often with lyrics sung in Hebrew, Arabic, Aramaic, Turkish and Persian. The melodies and texts incorporate the spirit and music of Sufism and the musical heritage of the Holy Land. The group's vocalists include 14-year-old Bedouin vocalist Muhammad Gadir whose stunning voice has to be seen to be believed.
Yair Dalal and Dror Sinai will start out the evening with a special duo performance
Yair Dalal, born in 1955; composer, violinist, oud player singer and a teacher; A prolific ethnic musician, plays an important role in shaping the global world music scene. Over the last decade he has put 12 albums, covering wide and varied cultural territory, and authentically representing Israeli , Jewish and Middle Eastern cultures and fusing them through music as whole.
Dror Sinai is an international performer, educator, and performing artist, as well as the Founder of RHYTHM FUSION, Inc. in Santa Cruz, California. In 2002, he received the Gail Rich award for supporting the arts, and is a founding member of the World Music Committee for the Percussive Arts Society.
