Second Sunday Concert Series - Music for the Court of Louis XIII: Jane Long, Soprano and Konstantin Bozhnikov, Lute
Join us in Roedde House's quaint Victorian parlour for a concert bringing French music of the 1600s to life.
Air de cour describes a particular genre of secular vocal music from the period of around 1570 till 1650. During King Louis XIII's reign from 1610-1643, airs de cour were the predominant form of composition for the voice in France, especially in the royal court. These airs are typically composed for solo voice and lute accompaniment but infrequently include more voices. They are known for their simplicity of expression and are typically homophonic and strophic in structure.
This program contains an assortment of short, popular airs de cour arranged into a fluid structure where improvisational lute solos link the airs together to create larger groupings as a 'ballet de cour' of sorts. You can imagine yourself in the setting of the royal court as you listen to the popular French music of the 1600's.
Soprano, Jane Long, grew up and currently resides in Vancouver British Columbia. Jane is praised for her pure, clean tone and enjoys working as a chamber singer, concert soloist, and recitalist. For more information visit: www.janelong.ca
Konstantin Ruslanov Bozhinov is a Vancouver- based lute, guitar and accordion player, specializing in improvisation and composition of music of the Renaissance and Baroque eras. For more information visit: www.konstantin-bozhinov.com
Please note that ticket prices are now $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.
