Michael Ian Black's My Custom Van
The Van is back! After a successful debut, My Custom Van is returning to the Drilling Comapny Theatre for FIVE NIGHTS ONLY! Prepare to have your mind blown all your face as Project: Theater brings more than a dozen of Mr. Black's gut-busting essays to life.
The Show: Theasy.com described it as "friggin' hilarous." Offoffonline chose it as its pick of the week and called it "rock solid." Dare to step inside acclaimed comedian/actor/writer Michael Ian Black's My Custom Van and take a tour of one of the greatest literary minds the universe has ever known. See the myriad freaks of nature all living in relative harmony (and sometimes irrelative disharmony) within one brilliant and beautifully coiffed head! From self-loathing high school football coach to jug-band washboard player, taco party host to erotic novelist, each character birthed from Mr. Black's pen provides an evermore revealing glimpse into what makes the modern American man tick.
The Writer: Michael Ian Black has starred in many television series and films including Stella, the State, Wet Hot American Summer, Viva Variety, VH1s I Love the...series, and NBCs Ed. He wrote the screenplay for Run, Fatboy, Run, and wrote and directed the film Wedding Daze. Michael is also a popular standup comedian and Grammy award-winning R&B artist (not true). His latest project is Michael and Michael Have Issues, a comedy series which premiered in July 2009 on Comedy Central.
The Company: Adapted and directed by Project: Theater Artistic Director Joe Jung and Stage Managed by Jacob Seelbach, My Custom Van will feature the acting talent of Amanda Byron*, Gino Constabile, Ruark Downey*, Brian Frank, Joe Jung, Andrew McLeod, Brian Sell* and Joshua Tussin. Lighting and Projection Design by Chad Lefebvre. The production runs approximately 97.5 minutes.
Utilizing original music, transforming scenery, and a talented creative team, Project: Theater's goal is to produce engaging new or forgotten works, with an emphasis on the dialogue between artist and audience. Last year's production of The Five Lesbian Brothers The Secretaries was described as an outstanding...wild, campy, howlingly funny trip by Byrne Harrison (Stagebuzz.com). Other productions include Shels Shorts by Shel Silverstein, J.B. by Archibald MacLeish, and Language of Angels by Naomi Iizuka, and the monthly original series Our Bar.
