Event
A night of Balkan and Romani music, dance and culture!
In recent years, through the spread of movies of Emir Kusterica and the music of Balkan brass bands, Balkan and Romani (Gypsy) music have gained popularity in the US. The seeds have been planted and many wild varietals are growing under the radar.
This evening will bring together bands from across the spectrum, from the chaotic Eastern Bloc Party dance mix of Bucharest Drinking Team (polygigamous.com)
through the Balkan inspired Made in USA sounds of Seattle's Orkestar Zirkonium (orkestarzirkonium.com)
Go left into France by way of Lache Cercel and the Roma Swing Ensemble (www.lachecercel.com) Playing Grapelli/Reinhardt jazz with a Romanian twist
And land in Europe's southwest corner with ROMANI TRAFFIC JAM (from the Bay Area: http://brassliberation.org/vor.php) - a collaboration between members of the Brass Liberation Orchestra and master Bulgarian Romani musician Rumen Sali Shopov and Voice of Roma's (voiceofroma.com) Sani Rifati.
It's sure to be a night of great music, dance and celebration!
