Dan Carbone presents New Tales of Mystery and Imagination
Following last month's smash series of sold out performances, Bay Area absurdist writer/ performer Dan Carbone (whom the SF Weekly described as kind of the Daniel Johnston of performance art) returns to the Dark Room for an encore performance of new works including ÃOl Blue Balls about a chance encounter between Frank Sinatra and a little girl in the 1950s, ÃDebbie and the Demons (the less said, the better) and The Koreans, about a surreal, true-life encounter between Carbone and some young Korean students on the streets of downtown Oakland.
He's kind of the Daniel Johnston of performance art¦ Dan Carbone possesses an epic dedication to his art¦ Plenty of people (art school druggies, mostly) dabble in being super weird, but they don't have the stamina, the locked-jawed commitment, the self-knowledge, or the skill of Carbone¦ " Hiya Swanhuyser, SF Weekly
A long cherished and uniquely committed Bay Area talent who remarkably has eluded actually being committed. The late-show slot is altogether apt. Carbone's stage occupies a space between Pee Wee's Playhouse and Night Gallery. In so far as the Dark Room shows - which began in February " stand to be a regular thing, Satan and audience willing, we can all rest uneasier." Robert Alvia, SF Guardian
A unique genius reminiscent of Jonathan Winters. "Gene Price, Bay Times
