Intro to Beekeeping at Brooklyn Grange
This winter introduction to beekeeping with Stone Barns bee keeper Dan Carr will leave you buzzing with excitement! Inside the warmth of BLDG 92, Dan will provide you with a crash course in apiculture, walking participants through a brief history of beekeeping, the issues around beekeeping today, and the importance of apiculture in maintaining a healthy food system. We'll discuss the anatomy of a honey bee; the biology and life cycle of the colony; as well as equipment, hive architecture and basics in beekeeping safety.
To finish up our class we'll taste honeys from all over the world and see how terroir truly affects the flavor of one of our favorite sweets.
This workshop is perfect for those of you who are considering beekeeping for the first time and want to learn more before bee season is in full swing. If this is the year for you to dive into beekeeping, this is a great place to start!
This program takes place at BLDG 92 the Brooklyn Navy Yard's unique exhibition and visitor center. Come early to experience the past, present and future of the Yard through BLDG 92's interactive exhibits. FREE admission, Wed-Sun, 12-6pm.
