Slut Energy by rene marie. A benefit for the Bias Incident Hotline Project
You cannot help but have a strange feeling of familiarity the moment U Dean waddles onto the stage in all her deep-southern candor, cane in hand, and itching to tell us a story. A story that will guarantee the audience some discomfort, uncontrollable laughter, and even a few tears at any given moment. One thing is for sure, when all is said and done, no one will be able to forget the name, UDean I give you fair warning, this show is not for the faint of heart. It is not a a light piece of entertainment, so if you are expecting a spiritual sing-along, you might just want to catch The Color Purple the next time it comes to town. That is not to say that there is no song and dance, there is, but it is of a kind that delves into the depths of one as soul, and leaves an indelible print on the heart. Overall, I say, come one, come all, (but do spare those under the age of 13) and witness a process of healing. This is not just another story about abuse. It encompasses so much more than that, it is about letting go of the holds that society bars, and speaking ones personal truths. UDean story is one that we all can relate to in one way or another, our truths are felt together. We see ourselves more clearly than ever in the characters portrayed by a single person.
