San Francisco International Arts Festival The seventh annual San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) kicks off on May 19 and runs through May 30 with more than 40 performances and two major visual arts exhibits being presented by 32 San Francisco organizations at multiple venues throughout the City. With its annual theme, "The Truth in Knowing/Now: Threads in Time, Place, Culture," SFIAF 2010 will include numerous World Premieres, US Debuts & International Collaborations featuring leading artists from the Bay Area performing and exhibiting with and alongside their international peers from around the world. This year's festival includes dance, music, theatre and visual arts and events will take place at four venues at the Fort Mason Center (the Cowell & Southside Theatres and the Herbst and Festival Pavilions) as well as at Monaghan's Bar, swissnex/San Francisco, Theater Artaud, the Garage, the Herbst Theatre and Union Square.
A gutsy convention-defying one-person show weaving theatre, magical animation, movement, comedy and multimedia, "Other-wise" is a letter to Sunny's family come to life on the stage, exposing his emotions and experiences as a transgender person. Animated creatures whisk us into worlds of magic as Sunny explores boy tits, being honest with one's family, learning to fly and getting comfortable with contradictions and not knowing. As funny as it is moving, "Other-wise" is a testament to the courage it takes to be true to oneself.
Warning: you will only understand this show if you are human and born on planet earth.
