One of the most thrilling movie epics of all time, Seven Samurai (Shichinin no samurai) tells the story of a sixteenth-century village whose desperate inhabitants hire warriors to protect them from invading bandits. This three-hour ride from Akira Kurosawafeaturing legendary actors Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimuraseamlessly weaves philosophy and entertainment, delicate human emotions and relentless action, into a rich, evocative and unforgettable tale of courage and hope.
Akira Kurosawa's epic tale probes concepts of honor and duty, during an historical time when the old traditional order was breaking down.
We'll be joined via Skype by film editor Richard D. Pepperman, author of the forthcoming book Everything I Know About Filmmaking I Learned Watching Seven Samurai. Pepperman's credits include work as an editor, post production supervisor and consultant on features, documentaries, industrials, music videos, and commercials. He is currently a faculty member at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
