Join the Crowd
Nov 19

Happy Hour at 7pm, Event at 7:30pm!

Wednesday, Nov 19 at 07:00PM

Crowdfunding campaigns are an increasingly crucial stage in the making of short and feature films, webseries, documentaries and other moving image media projects. Seattle area filmmakers and fans do a terrific job of supporting each other's campaigns online. Join the Crowd is a new offline platform for artists to spread the word about their projects, connect with fellow crews and support each other's work. Join the Crowd features short presentations of projects currently in the midst of a campaign, plus a recent crowdfunding Success Story, with the filmmaker on hand to offer wise words to anyone who wants to learn tips and tricks of crowdfunding.

In the spirit of crowdfunding, entry to the event is paid by giving a minimum of $10 to a featured project--and if you're on the team of a featured project, you must give to one of your peer projects!

--------------

THE PROJECT: This Brute Land Virginia (short film)

A genre-blending short film set in a 17th-century pilgrim colony. An erotic thriller, a period piece and a sci-fi-horror film, this short film fuses the elegance and tension of these genres into an original and engaging story. The short will be the flagship project of a larger franchise of art projects and digital content that includes work connected to the original story (such as a smartphone game) as well as content that moves beyond the film (minimalist fashion accessories, a comic series, and other forms of visual art).

THE TEAM: Neil Ferron (Writer/Director) and Ali el-Gasseir (Producer)

THE COSTS: Equipment rental, props, costumes, set design, make-up

THE GOAL: $12,000

--------------

THE PROJECT: Equivalence (short film)

Molly, an actress, takes on the role of Abigail, who is also an actress. Abigail also plays a character, a woman going insane - Harriet. With each film directed on a different medium by a different director, and each character a part of her, Molly must struggle to be both an actress and herself.

THE TEAM: Aaron Dean, Chris Hulsizer, Matthew Rush, Molly Tollefson

THE COSTS: 35mm film stock, camera, makeup and wardrobe, talent, post-production and more

THE GOAL: $11,996

--------------

THE PROJECT: The Veterinarian (short film)

A short dramatic film about a connection made by two characters in Seattle's underworld.

THE TEAM: Brendan Flynn (Director) and Beree Flynn (Producer)

THE COSTS:  Wages and meals for the cast and crew, permits, and film equipment

THE GOAL: $3,500

--------------

THE PROJECT: Vernae

An experimental dance film based on The Rite of Spring. Moving bodies, textural imagery and natural artifacts map a rendering of human urge and impulse across the relentlessly climactic swells of Stravinsky's masterwork. A conceptual editing approach uses Stravinsky's original choreographic timing cues to dictate every cut in the film.

THE TEAM: Ethan Folk

THE COSTS: artist compensation, studio rental, costume fabrication, set construction, transportation, gear rental, post production support, distribution costs and more

THE GOAL: $17,500

--------------

Success Story

THE PROJECT: A Brief History of Time Travel (feature length documentary)

A documentary exploring the history, pop culture and connection between time travel and us.

THE TEAM: Gisella Bustillos

THE COSTS: Archival footage, music, editor, color correction, festival submission fees and more

RAISED: $40,688
