The buzz is huge on Juan of the Dead, a satirical comedy about life in Cuba and a zombie genre spoof. A violent plague is unleashed on the streets of Havana, on the anniversary of the revolution, with zombies multiplying exponentially by the minute. While the authorities blame imperialistic maneuvers from the North for the vicious takeover, they're soon overwhelmed by mounting chaos.
The apocalypse seems irreversible. But before all hope is lost, an unlikely team is formed to try and defeat the odds: Juan, a middle-aged man without occupation and his pal Lazaro. At the beginning of the outbreak, they're on a fishing trip - as they return, they realize there's a business opportunity if they stay alive, and start offering zombie extermination and removal services to the living (those who can afford it): "Juan of the Dead, we kill your loved ones."
Among the gore, sarcasm and witty political commentary, Juan of the Dead is also a love letter to the people of Cuba who thankfully, like our hero Juan, aren't zombies.
