Accessibility Compliance - How to Avoid Costly Mistakes
This seminar is an advanced-level class which will present a methodical analysis of Chapter 11B of the California Building Code through case-studies of actual projects. This seminar will use pictures and floor plans to clarify the code requirements with an emphasis on how to avoid costly mistakes and possible legal action.
The seminar will be broken into eight parts: (1) Overview of Accessibility  The ADA, the CBC and Furniture (2) Plumbing Fixtures
Toilet Rooms, Sinks and Lavatories (3) A Building Officials Perspective (4) Medical Facilities  Hospitals and Medical Office Buildings
(5) Alteration Projects  Path of Travel (6) Signage and Braille (7) 2016 CBC Code Updates (8) Exterior Areas  Parking, Passenger Loading Zones, Detectable Warnings, Ramps

TIME: Door opens at 8:30 am, class begins at 9 am and runs until approximately 2:30 pm

COST: AIA Members, $100 (+svc fee) Non-members $150 (+svc fee)

About the Instructors:
Bill Zellmer CASp - Sutter Health Accessibility Architect is the in-house accessibility expert managing the accessibility upgrades throughout Sutters 24 hospitals and 200+ medical office buildings. Bills experience includes: Architect: 1987-2015; OSHPD: 1995-2009; Certified Access Specialist: 2010 - 2015; Accessibility Field Surveys: 2010  2015; Sutter Health Accessibility Expert: 2014-2015; Certified Access Specialist Institute (CASI) President: 2015-2016;
CBSC Healthcare Advisory Committee: 2015-2018

Glenn Gall AIA  OSHPD Supervisor Health Facilities  Building Standards Unit is an established professional in code-compliance of healthcare facilities working as a leader in the code-writing arena, both within OSHPD and nationally as part of the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) standards writing committee.
Glenns experience includes: OSHPD Regulations Coordinator, OSHPD Senior Architect  Plan Review, OSHPD Representative to California Building Standards Commission, OSHPD Representative to Hospital Building Safety Board, California Architects Board  Professional Qualifications Committee, Health Guidelines Revision Committee - Facility Guidelines Institute (Formerly AIA Guidelines
