The Last Mughal
Celebrated author William Dalrymple reads from his award-winning book The Last Mughal: The Fall of a Dynasty, Delhi, 1857, accompanied by North Indian vocalist Vidya Shah. This evocative evening celebrates the bygone era of India's last Mughals, bringing to life a world of emperors, poets, courtesans, politics, bayonets, intrigue and love through word and music.

WILLIAM DALRYMPLE
Scotland-born William Dalrymple wrote the highly-acclaimed bestseller In Xanadu when he was 22, lived in Delhi for six years since 1989 to research his second book, City of Djinns, which won the 1994 Thomas Cook Travel Book Award and the Sunday Times Young British Writer of the Year Award, and won the French Prix D'Astrolabe in 2005 for a collection of his writings about India, The Age of Kali. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and the Royal Asiatic Society, and is the founder and co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival

VIDYA SHAH
Vidya Shah began with a training in Carnatic music and has then trained in Khayal Gayaki with Shubha Mudgal and Mujahid Hussain Khan and in Thumri with Shanti Hiranand. A prolific performer and composer, she is director of the performance project 'Women on Record' and a recipient of the Chalres Wallace award.
